Everything below expands on that core.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"s-week-1-problem-and-customer-days-1-7\">Week 1: Problem and customer (Days 1\u20137)<\/h2>\n<p>Your goal this week is to stop believing your own pitch and start hearing the problem in your customers&#8217; own words.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Write the problem in one sentence.<\/strong> Not the solution. The problem. &#8220;Mid-market ops teams spend 6 hours a week reconciling invoices across three systems&#8221; is a problem. &#8220;An AI agent that reconciles invoices&#8221; is a solution dressed up as one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Define a narrow ICP.<\/strong> Role, company size, industry, and the specific workflow they own. If your answer is &#8220;product managers&#8221; or &#8220;small businesses,&#8221; it&#8217;s too broad. &#8220;Series B SaaS product managers who own activation metrics&#8221; is workable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Book 10 discovery calls.<\/strong> 20\u201330 minutes each. Ask about the last time they hit the problem, what they did, and what it cost them in time or money. Do not demo. Do not pitch.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Score the pain.<\/strong> After each call, rate frequency (daily\/weekly\/monthly), severity (annoying\/expensive\/blocking), and whether they&#8217;re already paying to solve it \u2014 hacks, spreadsheets, a junior employee, a competitor&#8217;s product. For each, write down where it lives today, who owns it, and how you&#8217;d get to it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Check legal and consent.<\/strong> Is the data covered by existing terms? Does the Privacy Act, GDPR, HIPAA, or the EU AI Act change what you can do with it?
